This was a very tiring weekend and I'm feeling a bit drained - and sore - today. All in a good way, though!
After spending Saturday digging fence post holes and adding cement to them at my mom's house, I babysat until close to 1am. When the alarm went off at 7:00am on Sunday, I was pretty close to backing out of the day's plans. The bed just felt so good.
But, alas, I got up and zombied my way through the routine. A venti coffee got me close to human and we were off to the mountains (with two returns home again for things we forgot - oops). I joined a new friend, Austin, in filming Matt and Will for some product videos of the GG/DH. I'll post the videos when they go public. I think that Matt has watched the sample version about 30 times now. Clearly he likes watching videos of himself ride the bike that he made. I mean, who wouldn't!
After grabbing some awesome hot dogs at Brian's Dogs (if you are ever in Idaho Springs, get food here. Matt loved his JalapeƱo Elk Dog and my brat was fantastic!) we did some downhill riding at Warren Gulch.
This was my first time back on the the downhill bike after breaking my collarbone at the end of last season. It was a trail I had never ridden before. I was nervous. Getting back on a bike after you've had a bad crash is hard. You overthink what you are doing. In the back of your mind, you are scared you'll crash and break yourself again. My anxiety level was a bit high.
But, I did it! I overcame my fear and had a blast! I even went up for a third run. My legs are pretty sore today, as it is a long ride down, but it feels so great! Such a sense of accomplishment. And I didn't feel too timid on the bike. Although slow, I wasn't ultra slow, which made me feel good. Even more fun... we had 7 women riding with the group! How cool is that? And the energy and encouragement that women bring to the group makes it all the more enjoyable.
Here's a snapshot before our last run down the mountain (thanks, Jason).
Getting up this morning SUCKED! I needed another hour or two of sleep to make my body feel rested. My right ring finger is cranky as a result of this weekend's activities, but overall, the joints aren't too bad. I'm quite thankful. The hurting I have going on now is muscle soreness from standing over the bike and the chatter of rocks down the mountain.
I went to my trainer today and we focused on chest and arms. Those sucked, too. I'm sore tonight. We also did weight & body fat measurements and I've only lost a couple of pounds in a little less than 2 months and 1% body fat. Bummer. The culprit...food & beer. Why do I love them so much?! I wish I were one of those people who could have the take it or leave it attitude when it comes to food, but I'm not and I never will be. I know I haven't been diligent about watching intake the last few weeks - meetings can do that to me, and then the planning meeting all last week. It is hard to be accountable, especially when eating out all the time for work. Tomorrow, I begin the food journal again. I'm also going to be really, really mindful of the types of foods I'm eating. Too bad I'm going to the opening of the beer garden down the street tomorrow for dinner. This will be interesting!
To begin the renewed eating better journey, I grilled salmon steaks on a cedar plank for dinner tonight and had grilled veggies to go with the salmon. After dinner, I made both myself and Matt a salad for tomorrow's lunch, which included snap peas, tomatoes, cucumbers, strawberries from the garden, and some frozen cherries. I packed the leftover salmon to add on top as well as some slivered almonds and homemade dijon dressing. Snack will be some plain greek yogurt with a diced apricot that came in the veggie delivery today. Here's to another renewal on getting healthy!
Two of the ladies on the ride yesterday recommended the Paleo diet. I had another friend also suggest I look into it. I'm intrigued and will take a better, second look. It would be a hard one for me, as I reallylike love good beer. Maybe no grains except those found in the beer form? Anyone out there done Paleo and want to share your thoughts, insights, likes, dislikes, etc.? Is it something you do to get weight off or is it a lifestyle change diet? And most importantly, can you drink beer on the diet?
