So, in my new found fitness routine, I'm trying to not only get back in shape, but also lose weight. 10 pounds by June 1. Goal weight for June is 155 lbs. By the end of the year, I'd like to be at 145, but I'm going with 10 lbs for now. Food wise, I can be pretty hit or miss, so exercise has to be my driving force for weight loss.
The equation that 1lb = 3500 calories sticks with me. I have been utilizing my heart rate monitor anytime I exercise. Not only is it awesome to manage my asthma, it also allows me to see how many calories I actually burn during a workout. The hand grips on the machines are rarely accurate and tend to read low for me. Garmin, the maker of my monitor, has an online program to set goals, see your workouts on a calendar and track your weight. With a goal of losing 1/2 lb per week, I need to exercise off 1750 calories, so I have made a goal of 2,000 calories per week for good measure.
So far, I have done pretty well. I'll weigh myself before I head to Austin on Wednesday, since I won't be able to on Saturday.
Here is tonight's spin class: Spin Class at Garmin Connect - Details
Having a tool to help track and understand my fitness is really helpful. I think I need to up some of my goals! There is a gym at the hotel I'm at in Austin, and I'll be doing a lot of walking around the city and the conventions center, so I'm hopeful that if I don't let the food get the better of me, that I'll lose my 1/2 pound for the week.
